My HD picture started breaking up at lunch-time today and now it's non-existent so the BBC information is incorrect. SD is still working

Harry of Oldham, I can only report what happens to my signal and today the HD signal seems to be very dodgy again, Ironically before this week the HD signal was fine and it was the SD signal which suffered from strange blips. It's bad enough having to suffer the second-class service which is Freeview-Lite but they ought to spend some money to make the transmitter more reliable. I just wish I could get all my television via the internet as we have FTTC here and average speeds of 35Mbp/sec.

I have no desire to use Freesat. It should not be beyond the wit of man to engineer a reliable terrestrial transmitter. I can, in fact , watch any BBC local news I want by changing my notional location on the BBC I-Player via Youview, which also has internet -based channels like Eurosport and BT Sport. It's just that it's a bit more awkward to use than normal TV.

Mike P, how do you know that maintenance is being carried out. According to Digital UK the only maintenance currently being carried out in the Yorkshire TV area is in Grimsby (which is not in Yorkshire) which is close to where I come from but not where I live now.
Harry, I don't see why I should have to buy a satellite dish to receive a decent signal.

Mike P,
There is nothing wrong with my equipment. My problems with the signal have coincided with downtime at the transmitter. I get the same sort of response from Digital UK pointing the finger at me when it's actually transmitter problems.
As I said I had absolutely no problem with HD but strange blips on SD and then the situation reversed, so it's a transmitter problem not a reception problem. My postcode is OL14 5EL

There aren't "plenty" of other transmitters : there's Cornholme, and that's it. Walsden is not a viable option.

I can now receive BBC4HD (Freeview 106) from the Todmorden relay, after a retune.

But a little research shows that this is only for the duration of the Olympic Games and it will disappear again after that. What a farce!

Mike P,
I didn't jump the gun as I posted before any engineering works were announced. When I accessed this site to see if there were any engineering works, the site said there were no reported problems with the Todmorden transmitter. So I reported them. I can't see the point of your comment. Would you care to explain it?
