Morphy Richards DRM review from TechRadar UK's expert reviews of Radios .
DRM is designed for the AM band (30mHz) and DRM+ is integrated into Band 2 - Lower band 3 then there is no compatibility from what i gather...

Another Sky Television Scam to watch out for.

We installed dish and 6 cable runs across a very large house, days after the installation was complete the householder gets a call from some guy representing Sky Television...

"Telling her there has been a Sky Television fault in her area, some of your neighbours are experiencing problems and we have an engineer in the area"

Conveniently the following day, the caller begins to panic the customer by letting on her Sky may disappear if not checked. The engineer is free and will not charge apparently but if they find a fault they may charge to put it right. The guy arrived at the house and began making up fairy stories about how bad the installation was and how the dish could blow off the chimney, How it could kill her dog, destroy the car, threaten her grand kids on and on this tirade went. The customer used her head and phoned myself whilst the guy was on the premises. I asked her to get a quote in writing for any work he suggested.

The guy wouldn't leave a quote in writing but said it would cost £465 to sort out and left a mobile number. She called him back two days later arranged the job and we were on the premises when he arrived, attempted to discuss how a perfectly working satellite installation cost £465 to repair considering for the moment the original for half that cost. He fled the scene with his mate unfortunately the van was white with no livery apart from a mobile number.

At least this customer in this instance was clued in but it makes you wonder how many people aren't... Don't get ripped off.

Brian - Yes granted but there would have to be a wholesale clearance of Band 2 and not to mention community FM stations in a post switchover era won't use anything like the power of the national services and will be locally restricted services. It would be possible to squeeze them in and still use make use of band 2.

Then again there could be a DDR style review and large chunk of spectrum could be sold to mobile companies to privateer mobile tv and such in 100kHz blocks...

What Mark has written above would be my fitting obituary... I come across these people on a daily basis unfortunately. It's disappointing when people moan over money it is only when they get charged twice, replace a few broken tiles or have two prats turn up at the door with shoddy ladders that cause endless grief they twig that aerialman had a point...

You should have just written a quote £119 plus VAT for a Replacement Hip.

There is and always has been Channel 20 usage - It was decided moons ago through the aerial groups that 21 would be the base frequency and to allow a gap between the top of band 2 and lower band 4. Of course band 3 was in use for years so a gap was created almost by default. CATV systems still make use of channels below the base frequency.

For example of test frequencies that were used - There may be changes to these taken from Caldbeck field strength tests circa 89...

I have just been presented with the IRS install from hell, i can't get over the sheer incompetence of people surely there is no one in this life who deliberately sets out to perform a bad job...

24 lovely newly built flats all pre-sold which was the first miracle considering the economy is f*cked. Second miracle all the cabling is pre-done, labeled and all they needed to provide was a decent rig, 3 multiswitches and drop 4 additional cable runs... Wee buns

What we end up with is 6 zone 2 minidishes with quads and 23 cable runs yes they missed out 1 flat and proceeded to drop all 23 cables over the side of the building in crappy push in a tape plastic conduits. Its black at the top, black half way down and black at the bottom it's a f*cking sight. The cables are then paired and taped together to the downpipe and enter the building at various intervals.

There is a riser were the head end could of happily sat wired all internally to lovely triax modular plates. The job specifies 2 satellite feeds, VHF and IEC with a single return per flat. They get in reality a single satellite feed banged through their wall with the brick blasted right through. Some weren't even terminated just left coiled up in the corner room.

There was a revolt the other day the residents per promised Sky HD boxes and a years free subscription to help the sale progress a bit smoother but the aerial company has done a bunk with the developers money. Is it any wonder the Country's in the state it's in...

You throwing the toys out of pram... I'm of coursing joking but it takes someone with a set of balls to start an enterprise such as this and you're doing a bang up job. Don't panic another year and a bit and you can retire. Keep up the good work and chin up...
