Hi Brian - Its certainly good news for DAB coverage in this area. I have a few photos of the rigging team at Newcastle, will try and post them on facebook or here.

Hi Peter - I don't think anything is concrete, discussions I've had with the DTG and various industry folk paint a different picture. Channel 12 usage isn't assured just because the south pull the plug on analogue. Arqiva have drawn up a plan for band 3 coverage post Dso it's included in a reference offer made to ofcom and while increases in the commercial multiplex will happen i don't believe any new sites will come online. Certain moves will take place, Colinward will be decommissioned as will Black Mountain. With Divis and Carnmoney now online for the BBC's own multiplex the commercial muxes will move to both sites. I don't see any further commercial expansion in the next few years if at all. The BBC will bring online 4 new DAB sites in 2012, Cushendall, Glenariff, Ballycastle Forest and Bellair and that will conclude BBC expansion all this work is planned as part of the Dso upgrade scheme. New higher antennas at Londonderry and Strabane to increase road coverage and that's it. It's down to Arqiva how far the commercial mux is put into Northern Ireland and there does not seem to be the will, there certainly won't be anything like D1 in the province for years to come.

As it stands the DAB work at Camlough and Newcastle is finished... We await with baited breath someone toddling up the mountain and switching on the tx's. Newcastle looks well with the 4 tier band 3 dipoles surmounting the UHF antennas. It appears the UHF kit is staying as is on the mast and a few dishes have appeared however Camlough has a new cardioid cylinder antenna as well as a pair of band 3 antennas.

Carnmoney Hill and Black Mountain will be closed Monday 14th November to all services to and I quote "Facilitate the installation of new antennas " Whilst every effort will be made to maintain service viewers and installers should be aware sudden outages could occur it goes on to say... Sounds interesting but somehow I cannot see all services closing at Black Mountain I assume they are referring to UHF services.

Patrick - That's because Radio Ulster is on the local 12D ensemble not the BBC national service on 12B...

What Bangor a 1.4watt tv relay... Surely if a multiplex is considered for Belfast it should be Carnmoney Hill or several other candidates spring to mind before Bangor, would love to know the reasoning behind that.

All 4 analogue services, DAB and Downtown have been off air since 11pm last night. Service still not restored as of 9pm the following night. Could someone acknowledge the problems and sort them, because I'm sick of the amount of calls regarding this Tx.

Divis (Northern Ireland) transmitter
Wednesday 28 March 2012 10:49AM

Caldbeck was swamping Divis in parts of Lisburn yesterday afternoon...

Peter i wouldn't worry about Carnmoney being Freeview Lite in a few years time all Tx's will be down to 3 psb multiplexs if what is being proposed goes ahead. Ofcom have postponed the 600mhz auction as the DTT allocations are to be used for mobile services this has been agreed at a world conference.
In a nutshell the death of tv in a terrestrial format has begun, if they close the c/d group and force over 40% of the countries transmitters to be retuned, transmitters such as Mendip. Winter Hill, Limavady, Huntshaw to name a few requiring aerial changes. It would be utter chaos...
