You are saying Bluebell Hill will interfere with the newly digital Aldeburgh at some point for viewers effectively north of the Aldeburgh xmitter? I am confused again, sorry, as I thought you just agreed that it would be foreign xmitters changing frequency which would cause its signal interference.

Re Sky.
There are some channels such as 'Yesterday' which Sky expects us to pay for which are free on freesat. The Sky box can be manually tuned to see freesat channels. How do I find the relevant data I must input, eg frequency,to see Yesterday on freesat via my Sky box? Why when I set up my Sky box to hold such channels does it only do so for a few days and then 'forget', so I have to put the info in again? Pace box.

Thanks Brian and Mike.
Brian, I think we still are at cross purposes over Sky. I realize Sky encripts, for example, 'Yesterday.' Freesat does not. You can receive Freesat channels on the Sky box if you know the various data you can input manually into the Sky box, a different set of data for each freesat channel you want to see, just as you can put a different dish on Sky and manually tune into channels from ,for example, Hispasat. I was asking where I can find the data for freesat 'Yesterday', frequencies etc, so I can see the freesat version on my Sky box. I also wanted to know why Sky 'forgets' these extra channels after a few days.

Thank you Brian. You knocked me into touch there!
I would like to return to my last question in general terms, though. If I want to look at a freesat channel on my Sky box, where do i find the data I have to put manually into the Sky box to find that channel? I think there may be a mag called 'what sat' still going, but is there an internet site that displays it?
Why does the Sky box only retain these 'extra channels' which I manually input for a few days?
Many thanks.

Thank you both. I have a 'free' card in there but it is out of date. Even when it was not, the box 'forgot' the extra channels. It is plugged in all the time.

Dear Brian,
When you watch analogue tv on an old 4 x 3 tv you have a thin black line top and bottom. This is quite acceptable. If you play Sky or freeview through the tv, despite having a choice of picture shapes, you cannot get the same shape picture. If you want to see the whole picture, you have to settle for a thick black line top and bottom. Why is this?
Thanks,
Nick.

Many thanks Brian.
Is Sky different? I have a 14x9 and two 4x3 settings.
One 4x3 makes the pic too big so I lose the sides and the other gets the whole pic in but with a thick line top and bottom. Do they deliberately make it that we cannot see the free channels on Sky properly on an old tv? I assume there is nothing I can do on an old set to see Sky the same shape and size as the anaalogue pic. Thanks.

Thanks Brian.
I don't suppose you know of any flat tvs that you can plug speakers into as opposed to amp plus speakers?
Sound on most is not particularly good. It is all very well for them to claim they use less power than crt tvs----not if you then have to use an amp to get the decent sound you got on a big box tv, not to mention the cost of the amp.
Many thanks.
Nick

Dear Brian,
Thanks for the answer about computer speakers. I would guess that even they are not particularly good though. I have many good speakers but if they need an amp, then that puts up the power consumption of these so called economical flat screens. Apart from that, I have to get up every time I want to adjust the volume! Great pity they don't put conventional extension speaker sockets on these new tvs. Some of the old sets had good sound with their satellite speakers.
A while back I asked what might be causing the Herringbone on analogue Sudbury BBC 1. You suggested it might be Bluebell Hill, but I see that tx does not use channel 51. Have you other ideas?
Best wishes,
Nick.

Thanks Brian. So we can definitely rule out continental xmitters as a source of interference to channel 51 as all are digital?
The interference to channel 51 has been permanent for many weeks, though not serious. I wondered if it was a problem with my set, but we all get it round here.. Quite a mystery, will look to see what uk xmitters might be causing it.
