Thanks Brian,
I was thinking of the two rabbits.
It seems to me that ITV3 and 4 could be termed public service channels and I think many are going to be annoyed not to have them.
Please could you also let me know if freesat is likely to extend its number of channels? As you kindly suggested in the past, this is now my chosen tv method as freeview seems problematic. However, I have discovered it is a poor substitute in terms of channels offered, specifically we lack Challenge and Yesterday. It is all very well the powers that be saying freesat is designed for those lacking freeview, but they should at least be required to make the two services comparable.

Thank you Brian for a very full answer.
I do not understand your final line though.
It seems to me that No-one will stand up to Sky. Why on earth they have a hold over freesat is beyond me. I thought freesat was set up to overcome Sky's monopoly of satellite broadcasting If Challenge and Yesterday can be on freeview, I fail to understand why they cannot be on freesat. Freesat is obviously a second class service and no substitute for freeview, which because we have insufficient terrestrial transmitters, we cannot receive through no fault of our own. It would be nice if your very informative letter could be put on a major part of this site so that the hackles of many viewers may be raised and we attempt to do something about this unacceptable situation.

Nick: Thank you once again Brian for a very full answer. It seems to me , though, that the public are getting short shrift in this scenario, with too many organisations continuing to be allowed to impose restrictive practices. Be it the lack of ITV 3 etc on some terrestrial xmitters, or Freeview channels being denied on Freesat with those who are unable to receive freeview due to the lack of transmitters being the losers, we are being treated as mugs. We have been forced to pay for new equipment, yet are denied what others get.
I wish there was a forum I could highlight this issue on to bring others onside. Any ideas please?

Nick: Martin, so glad you came across my comment. Second class we are and those who forced us to spend need taking to task. What shall we do about it?

Thanks Brian, but at least we can jump in the car, if we can afford the petrol, and go to the main store. With this set up, we have no choice. They won't spend out and give us the number of transmitters needed, nor put all the freeview channels on freesat. The regulator, if such exists, is taking its wages and sitting back and doing nothing.

Thanks Brian and Mike, but if we can't get proper freeview, they SHOULD be required to put it all on freesat. That's my opinion anyway.

Dear Mike and Brian,
Thank you again. It seems complicated. All I have in mind here is that some time ago Brian said freesat was designed for areas such as mine, so was not best pleased having bought it, to find we were short changed on channels.
Can you explain to me how freesat works? If , for example, I am watching BBC 1, is that the same signal which is going out on Sky? Or are there two BBC 1s up in the sky? If two, it seems a waste of what is available for other channels, and if one, what was the point of starting freesat?
Many thanks,
Regards,
Nick.

Ah, it did that one. Every time I have tried in the last few weeks it told me there was a fault. Never found out why.

Dover (Kent, England) Full Freeview transmitter
Saturday 15 October 2011 10:12AM

I have recently installed a very large aerial with booster to get Dover here near Felixtowe, I like analogue! Whilst the signal is first class, normally, there are times it fades to almost nothing, then slowly returns, over a few hours, to how it was. Any ideas why it varies so much? I am also curious why C4 is weak. I could understand ITV being weak as it is out at ch 66, but C4 is mid group, along with BBC1/2
