So far it doesn't look as though the Brighton (Whitehawk Hill) transmitter is going to be broadcasting BBC 4 HD or the News in HD - unless there is another channel up-date tonight.

Hm. When you buy HD free view kit nobody makes it clear that your local transmitter isn't actually ever(?) going to deliver the full service.
When I originally asked why BBC 3 would get HD first I was told (on this forum) it was because it had more viewers. Now I'm being told something different. Seems that my licence fee buys me less than other folks.

Except that the BBC do get a goodly share of the licence fee to provide programming. But yes, I did know this. What I don't understand is why it will, as Brian says, 'its not going to happen ever'. Who decides this? Who can I write to?

I'd agree if:-
It wasn't a public broadcasting service and didn't need to serve the lowest common denominator
and
There weren't any number of ways to catch up with BBC 1 (using PVR, Cable and Sat boxes) without having the +1 service instead of the diverse range and quality programming that populates BBC 4

I got to the BBC radio three comment and realised that this article is based on taste rather than an understanding of public service.
One thing I would suggest, now that we have an all digital service with BBC news 24 available to all is that all news broadcasts and comment should be there leaving the time on BBC 1 and 2 free for the sort of programming that BBC 3 (and to some extent 4) provides.

Do you know Brian - I pretty much agree with you with regard to this. It would fall in line with my policy of putting all news of any kind onto the news channel - room could be made there for some regional bits and pieces rather than the thirty minutes or so a day of pretty dull local stuff or stuff that's there because of some spurious link to the region.
