Is it not possible for those living in a fringe area where the main channels sometimes carry a different regional program for freeserve viewers to have the choice of regional services in their area? Is it not possible to achieve this by using the current "red button" technology?

The authorities should provide financial assistance to enable all those broadcasters currently on the national DAB + network to cover eventually and in the not distant future nationwide for all DAB + stations.

Thats Solent
Sunday 10 September 2017 10:48PM

I have noticed over the last 2 weeks on ThatsSolent TV the first early evening news programmes have not been broadcast on the first week-day (the first being the day after august bank holiday 2017) and instead they have continued with relaying Talking Pictures. Surely this is a breach of their franchise and they should be referred to Ofcom for this seemingly inexcusable occurrence.

Surely the BBC in making their decision to find an economic way of providing regional news and programmes on HD should take into account that ITV has had regional HD news from the beginning and if they can achieve it then it should receive equal treatment from the BBC. Their spending should be reallocated to allow for this.

Talking Pictures TV

Brian: The good thing about Talking Pictures TV is that it is now available from main transmitters on SD and still on Channel 81. A retune might be required.

Brian: The good thing about Talking Pictures TV is that it is now available on SD still on Channel 81 from the Rowridge transmitter and I would assume on all other main transmitters.

Is there a TV without internet connectivity available which enables those that live in fringe areas of services to connect a second aerial pointing in the direction of another BBC or ITV region to receive both regional services on Channels 1 and 3 respectively? This was always possible in the days of analogue but is seemingly impossible on digital.

Is there a TV set not using internet connectivity that enables one as with analogue to split the signal from two aerials for those living in fringe areas and receiving signals from two TV regions on BBC and ITV on Channels 1 and 3 respectively and so enable the viewer to choose between 2 regional programmes at the time they are being transmitted?

The problem with local TV in the UK, unlike in the US where local TV is affiliated to one of the major networks, is that they do not have the finance to transmit live from outside events or to report live from the locality of any news stories. This can only be solved by either local advertising or by subsidy from one of the two networks in the UK who carry regional news or a combination of both. This would also increase the viewing audience of the local stations making them more economically viable.
