At 9pm I watched Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I went back to BBC News Channel at 10pm and MUX 7 was back to normal. It has also been fine today- I've watched about two hours on 4+1 HD.

I'm finding aspects of the revamped site rather difficult to use. The biggest single problem is the "My Freeview" setting page. The site asked me to share my location, which I duly did. However, it didn't work correctly, placing my location in Calne, which I think is about thirty miles by road from my actual location in Bristol. There doesn't seem to be a means to reset it, so I'm stuck with inaccurate information and to view the Mendip page, I have to go through the Transmitters page.

I wanted to look at the Mendip page to see which MUX the Horror Channel is using. It's a good addition to Freeview, having several programmes that I enjoy.

This time I didn't enter a postcode. It simply asked me to share my location, which I did. How do I revert to a manual postcode input?

jb38, thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't seem to work. No new screen appears. Perhaps Briantist could set up a nice easy system to change one's location. After all, this site will be really useful when moving house.

Thanks for telling me about "clear". (I use Firefox for Mac and it seems the same as Windows.) I now have a new problem. Instead of getting a map, I get this error message:
Warning: file_get_contents(class_googlemaps.js): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/admintv/public_html/class_googlemaps.php on line 308

jb38, Thanks for your help. It's now working and yesterday's fault on the mapping option seems to have been corrected.

I note that the BBC Red Button service is now being transmitted on BBC1 HD and I would guess on the other BBC HD services using PSB3. I haven't yet noticed whether it's on the services using COM7. There is also this thing that I think they're calling Red Button Connected. Does anyone have further information?

Mike, my YouView box is from Talktalk but I'd guess it offers the same as BT. It is connected to the Internet.

I think that the basic idea is sound but that it should be a per person charge with exemptions only for the under twos, those pensioners currently exempt and those who are deaf, blind or both. I think that it's unfair that a single person or even a couple should pay the same as a family and that they should pay the same as an extended family. The only concession I'd make to those who fear a poll tax type charge would be an assumption that no household has more than four children or four adults.

Should Ofcom regulate the BBC?

I've just had an idea about how Ofcom could replace the BBC Trust. It would be a very strange situation if Ofcom found itself having to threaten the BBC with losing its right to broadcast, so assuming that we accept that the BBC is guaranteed its licence, maybe Ofcom could police each BBC channel separately and in exceptional circumstances put an errant channel into "special measures", not dissimilar to those used by Ofsted to try and improve failing schools. The ultimate sanction would be to put the entire corporation into "special measures" but I think that giving Ofcom such a power would open the system to charges of political interference. The objective is to keep the BBC independent, impartial and free from political control.
