Thanks Dave.

Agreed there are a few horizontal relays around London due to frequency clashes. My point was that there are a fair few horizontal aerials looking at Greenwich which should of been put up the other way round !

The F connector solution came a couple of hours too late. Bloke turned up with masonary drill this AM and my Dad gave him £55 for his efforts. (Girlfriend was getting restless over pixilated xmas viewing but thanks anyway).

I checked all 6 CP MUX's last night after the rigger had connected it up (looks like he did what Dave suggested) and signal levels are high but channel D26 (ITV etc) breaks up.
Could I ask :

Does digital suffer from multipath like analogue did (they are building big flats by the river near me)?

Is it at all possible that there is too much RF signal (it passes through a DVD which I think amplifies it at bit)? D26 is right in the middle of the 6 CP channels so could be getting splattered ? I put an amp on it and that made it worse.

Just do not want to spend £100 getting him round when I can spend £3? on an attenuator.

..Sorry, got cut off mid flow. I was going to say if that is the case then I can not be alone. I am at 2 metres AOD and just about everyone has a roof top aerial. If it's happening to me it must be happening to plenty of other folks. My set up (with a splice) is far from efficient !

Thanks Dave, I have bought the attenuator + will try to reduce the signal tonight till it arrives (should be a lot easier than trying to increase it) !
Thanks for your help. I will send you an update (as I am sure you are hanging on the news) !

Hello Dave,
Just so you konw the attenuator arrived in the post the next day.
I was about to fit it when I noticed the picture was fine on the D26 MUX. Four days later and it is still fine. The problem was definately too much signal as I can see the signal strength is slightly down on this MUX compared to the others.
I will keep my £3 investment in a safe place lest the problem occurs again !
Many thanks for your support and advice and I have noted your comments about signal strength reduction above.

Could I ask a quick question about this mast, why was it built in the first place ?

This area would appear to have decent coverage from Crystal Palace, Bluebell Hill and Dover already.

Is it that it is now definitely in Anglialand and the signal from Sudbury (which to my untrained eye at 100kw seems robust compared to analogue level) is reduced to the south east ?

I guess also interference on Sudbury from Heathfield and Tunbridge Wells?

Apologies for technical nature of question rather than "I can't get pick TV anymore", just curious... Brian

Thanks Dave.
I think you have the right idea. There are plenty of aerials looking at Sudbury around Southend (although from memory more look south). I guess they were just worried the DTV signal from Sudbury would be too puny with a new null built into it to the south east. Probably explains the other new relays too..

Radiation patterns withheld on one of the lowest and weakest transmitters in Britain? Any idea why?

Apologies. I have just worked this out for myself. Every transmitter (no matter how puny) within 100 miles of Calais High Street has its radiation pattern withheld.
Also every transmitter over a few watts up and down the country has the same issue (Woolwich 125 watts).
I am sure the French secret police are buzzing the Brading TV tower with camera equipped drones as we speak
