S18 1UQ roof aerial

We've used Freeview from Emley Moor for several years with no problems, whatever the weather. Two weeks ago, after factory reset, all channels were present but they continuously broke up. This was almost certainly wind related. When the wind dropped things were mostly OK. I assumed the broadcast power level had been reduced. The analogue signal was still perfectly watchable when the wind returned. Note: problem never happened before switch over. I'd heard that the power was going to be higher after phase two (today) so expected things to be as good as pre-SO after factory reset #2, but no. It's a windy evening and all channels are present but unwatchable broken up. channels. When will pre-SO power levels (or whatever else has got worse) be restored?

We are south of Sheffield and when I factory retune my Humax F-2 Fox T it lists Emley ITV etc channels which we receive at 83%. However, the BBC group on C47 are not there; instead we get C27 etc from Sheffield. This only runs at 30%, OK if the weather is calm but hopeless when it gets windy. A manual tune on C47 shows this channel is present (again at 83%) but I can't get this group to appear on the programme list. It says it's saving them but they seem to disappear. The handbook sheds no light; can you?

Humax F2-FOX T. Horizontal polarisation.

Back again. Cleared list, manually searched for C47 and C44, found, strength 83%, saved OK. Same problem remains: when I look at what I get, rather than what I asked for, I find C44 and C27. Latter is Sheffield and weak. Repeated several times; not finger trouble. What to do?

I'm now a bit uncertain about the source of C27. I'd guessed Sheffield since the channel used here and Crookesmore and Emley More are only about 15 deg apart. The power seemed plausible, too. But Sheffield's vertically polarized, of course, and our aerial is horizontal. Not that it really changes the problem.

Sorted! Did a proper factory install with aerial out, followed by manual tune on C47 and C44, which we now get at the expected power. Thanks for the help; it kept me moving.

We have been getting digital signals from Emley Moor here at Dronfield since switch over. Sometime in the last few weeks we have lost C48, C51 and C52. The info says signal 85%, quality 0%. I've gone back to installation -> manual tuning (which I had to use at changeover) but that looks in order (right frequency) and there the info is strength 85% quality 100%.

What has changed? I'm reluctant to do factory rest plus full manual retune, as it was a bit of a performance at changeover, until I can be sure this will cure the problem.

S18 1UQ

Sometime over the past few weeks we have lost C48, 51 and 52. They were working fine after switch-over but we don't watch them much so I don't know when they failed. Signal strength is reported by the ETB to be about 76% but quality is zero. However, when I go to install, to start a manual tune its says signal strength 76% quality 100%.

Why should they be different and (more important) how can I get the signal back?

Tim Searle:

Dave, Thanks for this. I somehow failed to find your reply, which seems to fit the bill in timing, before I sent a second post with a bit more detail. This discrepancy between the install signal monitor and the ordinary signal quality one - could the FEC change explain that?

Is there a connection between the FEC and the Mode or the Guard Interval? If so, to what values should I set them? They have always been on auto in the past.
