Not dab again. Trying to fool people into thinking dab is an advanced technology. The only way to listen to quality stereo radio is to buy a streamer and listen on the internet or get an fm tuner.

This is a crazy article. The BBC gansters have no right to enter your house and have to leave your property if asked. You do not need to answer any of their questions. Cases of harassment (numerous letters etc.) have been reported. In this case write to them telling them to desist if this does not work you could report it to the police.

Having said all that do not break the law. The BBC licence fee needs to be abolished in a legal way.

Can anyone explain the logic of this regulation

I think that the fact that all the big streamers are global organizations is the main factor here. Much of my viewing recently has been from Netflix which are now producing some high quality programs such as "The Crown". They are also producing many programs in UHD with HDR and Dolby+ for a subcription which is cheaper than the licence fee.

I don't think that the streaming services would want to take over much of the current British shows because most are not very good. They seem to prefer to make their own.

Broadcast TV generally uses very low bit rates which reduces the picture quality. The BBC is one of the worst offenders. Blu-ray uses much higher bit rates for vision and sound.

Channel 4 abandons Freesat HD in TWO DAYS
Thursday 22 February 2018 3:59PM

Statements from freesat sugest there have been no increases in charges for 4 HD but there have been increases for 4s sd channels. 4 seems to be trying to reduce the fees they pay to freesat. As a public service channel they have to be available on all platforms in SD.

I would have thought freesat users can tune manualy as 4HD is not encrypted.

Freeview 2024?
Friday 15 June 2018 5:26PM

First Freeview is not free it reqires a subscription. I recently spent a week in a guest house in Weymouth that only had Freeview. I was shocked to discover that only 21 channels were available from the Weymouth transmitter. That experience alone was enough to convince me that there was no future for Freeview. There is also the issue of UHD which is never going to be available on Freeview.

A combined Freeview app sounds sounds good but will it require a TV licence. At the moment only the Iplayer needs a tv licence. If a combined app was produced I suspect the law will be changed and a licence fee will be required. This will only drive more and more viewers to other cheaper services such a Netflix.

Amazon has got the rights to 20 premiership games making it's service even more attractive.

For me the big issue is UHD. The BBC's pathetic attemtps to provide some of the World Cup games in UHD. This year I have been able to watch Premiereship Football and the Royal Wedding in UDH with Dolby Atmos sound. I watch Test Cricket, F1 and the French Open in UHD. Then I find I can only watch the World Cup in HD with ITV in the dark ages only using stereo. These companies should not be allowed to have exclusive rights if they cannot deliver tv at it's best.

In reply to Rich the BBC is no longer the Host for Wimbledon.

The Championships, Wimbledon 2018 - Official Site by IBM

I believe the reason the BBC no longer hosts Wimbledon is that they do not have resources for UHD broadcasting. In fact I don't think that the BBC has any UHD resources. The Iplayer trials were done by the BBC R&D department. There is no problem with transmitting UHD over the internet BTSport, Prime Video, Netflix and Youtube have been doing it for years. Recently BTSport transmitted two football finals free on Youtube in UHD and the quality was superb.

It seems that the BBC has no plans for transmitting UHD. In the mean time I have been watching Test Cricket, Premiership Football, the Royal Wedding and F1 all in UHD on Sky. The football and the wedding used Dolby Atmos which certainly adds to the atmosphere. Eurosport transmitted the French Open UHD.

It is worth noteing that the iplayer only streams 720p at 25fps. This is not even a HD standard!!!

I see no future for freeview as you cannot get all the channels in all areas. I recently stayed in Weymouth and they only get about half the freeview channels.

To quote

"There are TV programme genres that do really benefit from being watched in HD, especially nature documentaries and live stadium sport."

I watch premiership football, test cricket and F1 all in UHD and it is much better than HD.

Sky have a good EPG policy of putting HD channels high on the EPG for people who have HD TVs. The only idiots that don't is BBC 1 which is SD probably because of their policy of not providing HD for the regional transmissions.

HD also supports Dolby Surround Sound both on satellite and terrestrial.
