Freeview reception at PO21 2UQ

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Further to my E mail of the 29 July, I unplugged the aerial and performed a scan.
I re - connected the aerial and ran another scan. The re-scan did not find BBC1 or BBC2 !!! Re-ran the scan again and it found BBC1 and BBC2.
The picture is still breaking up on BBC1 & BBC2. Several of my neigbours are experiecing the same problem.
We all pay the same full licence fee. We should all be receiving a satisfatcory picture and sound quality on these two channels.
Please be kind enough to respond to this and my previous E mail
Yours in hope that you can fix this problem.

For some reason this web site is suggesting completely the wrong transmitters for my location, despite marking my location and that of my local mobile aerial masts correct on the map. It used to be fine up to around 18 months ago, but even if I clear the site cookie and the post code field and start again from scratch it always suggests Hannington and Hemel Hempstead (and maps their coverage on the map) despite the fact that I live around 12 miles due west of the Waltham transmitter in the East Midlands!
Any ideas?

No BBC channels in CB23 for weeks now.
Tried on various televisions, neighbours experiencing same issue.

LJA: BBC1 from the Sandy transmitter is being received perfectly OK up in the Stamford area, but though as this same complaint has recently been mentioned by one or two other viewers, I suspect that the reason for the problem is down to atmospheric conditions allowing the reception of some distant transmitter (possibly foreign) operating on the same Mux channel as Sandy's BBC, the clashing of the two wiping reception of the BBC out in "certain" areas.

"If" when you first experienced this problem you had tried retuning your TV? then this will have erased the BBC Mux channel from the tuners memory, and with the only way of recovering same being by carrying out a series of further retunes until you do, this being the reason why a person should never carry out a retune on their TV or box unless specifically requested to do so by a caption having appeared on their screen.

LJA: I suspect that the most likely out of area transmitter that could affect reception from Sandy Heath during periods of high pressure is Rowridge. It is worth noting that Rowridge at 200kW has effectively double the power normally expected to replicate the former analogue coverage, plus the additional vertically polarised signal of equal magnitude. Sandy Heath meanwhile at 180kW has slightly less power than would have been expected. This could potentially increase the likelyhood of interference for viewers prone to receiving long distance signals from the S/SW. Do you still have a BBC1 in your channel list? If you do, what region is indicated for the channel? If your receiver automatically re-tunes when additional frequencies are detected,-or if you re-tuned when the normal BBC1 was blocked by interference, it is possible that an incorrect version is now stored in the channel list. The conditions for long distance reception only occured on a few occasions for a short time overnight during the last few weeks, so if you have had no reception constantly over this time it suggests either incorrect tuning (unlikely for several TVs unless they were ALL retuned), a local interference problem on C27, or possibly trees have grown in the signal path which are blocking reception of C27 more than the other frequencies. As neighbours are also experiencing problems it is worth checking the tree situation, even if in practice it might mean waiting for Autumn for normal reception to be restored, at least with the existing aerial installation.

Good morning,
I recently took my aerial out for safety purposes as we were going away and storms were predicted. When we put the aerial back in we had lost our connection to the Oxford transmitter and are now connected to West Midlands. That's fine, but we have lost lots of channels that we regularly watch. I have re-tuned lots of times, but no luck.

Any suggestions please?

Many thanks in anticipation

Fran Shuttlewood: First check that everything is back as it was before your break. Is the aerial still in place and pointing in the correct direction? If the aerial is fed via any other equipment, such as a Sky box, VCR or the power supply to a splitter check that the equipment is powered up. Then if you have a manual tuning facility on your receiver do a manual tune for each of the Oxford frequencies, these being C53 , C60, C50, C59, C55 and if you have HD also tune C57 and C31. If you dont have a manual tune facility you could try doing a re-tune with the aerial lead unplugged for the first third of the scan, in order to miss out the local relay transmissions which could be confusing the tuner. Aim to plug it back in around C30 in the scan if this is indicated by the tuning bars.
