For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Rosie: considering just how close you are to the transmitter, either you are tuned to the wrong one or you have a major problem somewhere in your aerial system.

Rosie:

Further to that said by MikeB, check the signal strengths reported by you TV set. The User Manual will tell you how to access the manual tuning feature which will show the strengths - but DO NOT retune as yet.

If the strengths are above 85% then you have far too much signals and that is stopping the TV from working correctly. You can cure that with attenuators to reduce the signal strength. If you have less than 60% then you probably have a problem with your aerial and/or its cables feeding the TV set.

Could you also tell us which direction your aerial is pointing, please? If it is aimed about south west and has the short rods vertical then you are using the Totnes transmitter and should be tuned to channels 21, 24 and 27 (there are no other transmissions from Totnes). If the aerial is aimed roughly just north of east with the short rods horizontal, then you are using the Beacon Hill transmitter that has all the channels available. To find the channels for that, click on the 'digitaluk trade' box underneath your posting.

Since the recent changeover, we seem to have lost com7 and 8. I presume it is because we need a new aerial. I understand that Freeview are providing them free for domestic customers. However, I live on a managed estate, where we share a communial aerial. The Property Manager has enquired and he has ascertained that it would not be provided free, so it will be chargeable against the estate. Depending on the cost, I expect residents to complain as they watch tv through their Sky dish.

MartinR:

The cost to purchase an aerial is only about 40, but having it fitted and the system adjusted will be rather more.

People may be using the Sky dish to watch Sky or Freesat programmes but not the Freeview services as they are only delivered from terrestrial transmitters, such as Crystal Palace as in your case, and not via a satellite.

It is encumbant upon the management to provide a suitable aerial system, and who pays depends on your tenancy agreement.

sharon spratley: Most indoor aerials are rubbish (they often consist of little more than a piece of wire sticking out of any amplifier) and are only likely to be good enough when used close to the transmitter with a strong signal. Given that you are 26km from Pontop Pike and 45km from Bilsdale the signal is probably just not strong enough for an indoor aerial. If you already have a roof aerial then you should reconnect your TVs to it.

We have apparently lost all transmission programmes. This started yesterday (7 May 2018) but programmes came back intermittently and then disappeared again. Today (8th May) there were no programmes available when we switched on about 1.15 p.m. and there are still none (15.23). We have another digital set in another room which is giving the same message and, again, no programmes.
Help please

Anne Gilbey: Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind both TVs? Do both TVs use the same aerial and do you have an amplifier? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitter you're using, where you are in relation to it and your predicted coverage etc.

Tranter: There are no faults showing for either the Perranporth or Redruth transmitters. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Are you seeing problems on any other channels? Do not attempt to retune as this will never fix a problem with a weak signal.
