This would seem to be quite useful when it is properly calibrated. At the moment it is hopelessly optimistic in the countryside: (1) I have put in my post code, GL7 3DL (gr 209995), and the predictor says that my best signal should come from Blundon (N Swindon) 11.3 km away. My SONY ICF-7600 cannot detect any Radio 3 fm signal
on 91.2 MHz but it gets a reasonable signal from Oxford on 91.7 MHz. (2) The predictor also says that I should get a good DAB signal; my indoor DAB radio does indeed get a signal but the quality is about the same as that I got from my crystal set in the 1950's. In practice, it would appear the much vaunted advantages of DAB radio are grossly exaggerated in the countryside.

Just used the predictor and it appears to be missing Belmont as a radio transmitter

Ian: Given the location you supplied, if you look at the radio coverage maps Belmont (Lincolnshire, England) DAB transmitter and Belmont (Lincolnshire, England) analogue radio transmitter you can see the location is in the shadow. For FM and DAB the system is using a line-of-sight calculation.

John Hunter: Thanks. The amount of information about alternative transmitters for AM and FM has been reduced to keep it strightforward. I'm not really sure you are being very clear by saying " I got from my crystal set in the 1950's" about DAB as the digital signal encoding can't provide such results. DAB reception is a much simpler matter "in the countryside" as there are no buildings to block signals!

joe: Thanks. The system isn't finding any radio transmitters at the location you have selected. I will investigate.

54.2747 N, 4.5503 W (Kirk Michael, Isle of Man, suggests that only BBC R.Wales from Penmon and Manx R. on 1368 from Foxdale will be giving a good signal. Actually the best signals here are from BBC R. 4 on 720 KHz and BBC R. Ulster on 1341KHz. No FM or DAB reception is shown, though there is good local reception on FM. I was hoping to see some DAB prediction, perhaps from N. Ireland.
An interesting concept, but maybe the Isle of Man will be hard to fit into the system.

Unfortunately I have to report very disappointing results with the Prediction Checker in Sevenoaks. It's very pessimistic, showing no 96.7 FM reception on local station Radio Kent from Wrotham although it's loud and clear. Similarly BBC London 94.9, Capital 95.8, LBC 97.3, Kiss 100.0, Smooth 102.2, Heart Kent 103.1, Radio X 104.9, Magic 105.4, Absolute 105.8 and Heart London 106.2 are all missing. Many more stations such as Resonance 104.4, Rinse 106.8 and Reprezent 107.3 can be received with a better aerial and / or a more sensitive radio.

Amazingly, it says I can't receive any DAB at all, but the Wrotham D1, BBC National and London 1 muxes can all be received loud and clear even with the telescopic aerial unplugged, and London 2 and 3 are fine with the aerial connected.

And apparently the R4 powerhouse on 198kHz LW can't be received anywhere in the country ! So no Test Match Special or Yesterday In Parliament...
