Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Whitehawk Hill (Brighton and Hove, England) mast?

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Hi, Brian -

I notice you list the power of the D1 MPX from Whitehawk Hill as being 500W. The RLG (which, admittedly, is at least 6 months out of date) gives it as 200W. Has the power been increased?

Richard Davis: The figures are from the official Ofcom source, Ofcom | Tech Parameters . As Ofcom licence Digital One, their information should be correct.

Your DAB coverage for the Whitehawk Brighton transmitter is wildly over optimistic, to say the least. It only provides a usable signal to the north of the south downs in a very few locations

Did the the Dab frequency for BBC Sussex change with the recent frequency change? I noticed I was getting Smooth Sussex' rather than Radio Sussex on my Car digital radio.

Paul Jonas: There haven't been any recent frequency changes for DAB. Smooth Sussex is broadcast on the same DAB multiplex as BBC Sussex, you just need to re-select BBC Sussex from the station list.

There are widespread reports on other sites that this transmitter is out of action for "planned" World. Is this the case?

Kemp Court: Whitehawk Hill is currently listed for engineering work with possible service interruptions, according to Freeview's website. There is no indication of how long it will list, but often it is only for a few hours at a time, with work usually being completed by the evening.

Do not attempt to retune whilst the work is taking place. If you have retuned already you may need to retune again once the work is completed to restore missing channels.
