For two or three weeks now we've had problems getting C26 from Crystal Palace. We're out past Guildford behind some big poplar trees. But in autumn, when the leaves drop, the signal normally gets better, not worse. Can it be the "Crystal Palace main transmitter: TV (digital) Liable to interruption" that's causing this?

Does anyone have any idea why I am not able to receive any of the new multiplexes (LW, com7 and com8). I can receive the six original multipexes pretty clearly but when I try to manually tune my HDR Fox T2 int the channels C29, C33 and C35, the signal strength is zero for all three. (I have remembered to choose the DVB-T2 option.).

Tim: C29 uses DVB-T mode.

I don't believe COM8 on C35 is on air yet, although I'm not in the area so can't check. COM7 is being introduced from transmitters but COM8 has yet to be turned on anyway.

C33 is on air. Perhaps the lower power is the reason you can't get it, especially as you are relying on a set-top aerial facing away from the transmitter.

I can't believe that an appartment block does not have a TV aerial system!

Hi Dave

Thank you very much for your reply.

Do you know if there are any plans to increase the power of C33?

Tim: No, there are no plans.

The two new HD muxes will available from 30 transmitters, usually on lower power than the rest.

C29 will be a bit higher power than C33 and C35, but still lower than the main six.

Perhaps you should get a petition together with your neighbours to have an aerial system installed.

Hi,

I have just bought a new freeview enabled tv and have been slightly disappointed that I'm getting slightly below par signal quality for a number of multiplexes. I have good strength and the band containing channel 4, 5 and itv is ok. However bbc channels itv 3 etc have bad quality and are almost unwatchable. I have just moved to the apartment block also which is near battersea and is a ten year old ish new build, which I am pretty sure has a communal aerial with individual sockets in each apartment. I'm aware that crystal palace is not that far awy and really I should be getting better signal.
Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom: If it's a communal system and the signal coming "out" of the wall socket isn't as it should be then the only rectification is to the system itself.

You need to prove, as far as you can, that the problem isn't with your equipment, including the aerial lead.

Test with a different TV. Or, if you have a Freeview box (recorder) and a TV with Freeview built in, connect the TV only to the aerial socket and try it. Then connect the box only to the aerial socket (you will need to connect the TV to the box using a scart lead or HDMI lead as normal).

Some receivers are more sensitive than others, so just because one doesn't show a problem doesn't mean that the other is faulty. However, if they both exhibit symptoms then that tends to point to the common factor which is the aerial system.

See whether neighbours have the same issue but check they are using the aerial system (Freeview) and not satellite (Freesat or Sky).

Ryan: COM7 is on lower power than the rest.

Also, if you're using a communal (shared) aerial system then it might require adjustment to allow through the new channel. Communal systems are often filtered so as to allow through only frequencies used by the designated transmitter, which is why when a new one comes on air it isn't available until the adjustment is made.

I have had problems all over he Christmas and new year period with COm5 channels. BBC on PSB1 apears to be unaffected. The Power is 90-100% but the quality varies from 90 down to 5% as I watch it on the setup program. This makes Dave, Pick etc unwatchable.
