The symbol shows the location of the Crystal Palace (Greater London, England) transmitter which serves 4,490,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Crystal Palace (Greater London, England) mast?

I have just purchased a new LED HD ready TV with HD digibox. I can receive all/most chanels except HD. Will my external (roof) ariel receive HD after the switch over or should I investigate a new ariel now? Is Crystal Palace transmitter sending HD signals in all directions at this time? Any help with these questions will be much appeciated. Many thanks. David Kent

David Kent: It's likely that there will be no need for a new aerial.

The transmitters that operate before digital switchover do not carry HD except for Crystal Palace and a few others.

The Crystal Palace pre-switchover HD multiplex has been shoe-horned in. It's coverage area isn't as big as that for the other digital channels which might explain why you can't pick it up now.

David Kent: another thing to keep in mind is that the low powered Crystal Palace HD transmitter is also temporarily on the same frequency as the similarly powered ITV3 multiplex used by Sandy, this causing lots of problems for anyone even remotely North of London, although judging by reports it seems that its C/P's HD service that's taking the brunt of the same frequency clashing problem.

I cannot receive any HD channels today. A full retune does not find any of the HD channels 50- 54. Any clues?

Mikethemix: Try manually tuning to Ch31.

It is a possibility that you won't be able to pick up HD until switchover next year.

The Crystal Palace HD multiplex does not serve as big as area as the other (standard definition) multiplexes it broadcasts.

In particular, the Reigate digital transmitter uses the same frequency, so the amount of signal that Crystal Palace throws out in that direction will be much less than in other directions. You may well be having problems because of this measure.

At about 6.00pm today, we lost all digital chanlels with "no or bad signal". We have 4 TV's in the house, one is attached to a digibox, the other 3 are IDTV/freeview tv's. We can get analogue channels (BBC1 & 2, better than ITV/C4/C5 and that is it. I have tried retuning one of the TV's to no avail. Any help?

Nicki Hardy: In situations such as that which you describe, I would not retune any TV. The symptoms suggest a problem (of some sort) with the signal. Running the retuning scan simply causes more problems because now you have to retune it when you get the signal back.

If you have an amplifier for distribution to the 4 outlets, I would check that it's powered on. Then try bypassing it by connecting the lead from the aerial to the output to one of the TVs. Then go to the TV and see what you get.

You might need an adapter to connect the lead from the aerial to the lead to the TV (wall socket) because they might be the same gender.

Re: Dave Lindsay
Thanks for your constructive suggestions. I have tried tuning channel 31 manually, looking for T2, and the STB sees nothing.

We have been receiving all four HD channels without problems since the Humax HDR Fox T2 was installed in August 2011. So this is a new phenomenon. Is it possible that the STB's HD capability has failed? (51.2855,-0.3923BQ)
