The symbol shows the location of the Dover (Kent, England) transmitter which serves 190,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Dover (Kent, England) mast?

hi there, hoping someone can help, for the last 2 days, we have not been able to receive any hd channels, we have a youview box downstairs and an freeview hd tv upstairs, both have lost their hd channels, all other channels remain fine and dandy, have gone through all the recommended retuning bits, taking out the aerial, factory settings etc, but no joy, don't know where to try next, all cables are fine, looking outside the aerial is in exactly the same position as our neighbours, so, any ideas?? we are in cliftonville, margate, thanks

I just tried looking at c47 and I am getting the hd channels that I expected to find at c53. The signal strength is down from 78% to 63% but they are watchable at the moment (after 10pm).

I must be getting the channel 47 HD Mux from Sudbury even though my aerial is pointing at Dover. I'm guessing the Sudbury signal is 180 degrees away and I'm picking up signals from both transmitters at the same time.

Channel 53 from Dover is still dead for me in Palm Bay.

Dave G:
Just had a 20 min talk with a very nice man from the BBC. He says that he is going to look into the ch 53 problem, but if anyone else has problems, please report it to the reception desk on 03700 100 123. The more people who phone in the better. It will enable the BBC reception team to localise the problem better.

Hi Dave,

I've just reported the problem too, let's hope more people contact them.

Out of interest have you tried c47 instead of 53?

Jon Shaw:
Hi Jon. Yeah I spent half an hour with the engineer this morning doing monitoring duty and the problem was found to be one of the exciters at the Dover transmitter. Channel 53 is now back on and they are investigating what happened. Thanks to all who helped in this problem. By the way. Channel 47 is the Sudbury transmitter and transmits Anglia television programs. Points East etc.

Great news Dave, it's good to know there was a problem at the Dover end. Channel 53 had been off for 3 weeks, I'm surprised it took this long for a problem to be reported and identified though, how many thousands of people lost their HD channels I wonder?

Hi there. Has anyone else noticed, recently in Clacton that there is a steady increase in the rooftop aerials pointing to the DOVER transmitter? Clacton has a local LIGHT transmitter, which, of course, offers only the so called public service channels. Recently, on some days SUDBURY has been erratic with very poor Channel 56 (ITV 4 etc) which freezes or breaks up and sound sqwarks and hiccups. Even Channel 41 (Anglia ITV,Channels 4 and 5 etc), has been touchy (normal readings I get are 81% strength and 97% quality but disturbed readings fluctuating all over the place although BBC radio and tv group on channel 44 has remain rock steady all the time) Might consider another aerial for Dover but it will mean wrong regional news (Meridian etc).
