Richard caywood:

What local news programmes were you picking up on each set before today?

For the Upstairs set, I wondered whether you've got PSBs 1 & 2 mixed up. As for the other channels there's something of a mystery, except C51 & C52 are the old Emley COMs 4&5, and C48 is now Emley COM6.

I think first I'll list the Bilsdale ones for you in the same order as I've done for Emley in the previous post for Arthur.
Bilsdale C21, C24, C27, C43, C46, C40, C55, C56, C30. You can ignore the HD & Local ones C27, 55, 56 & 30.

As for the other channels I can't find any transmitters that you are likely to pick up with those numbers!
Maybe start with the Upstairs set, unplug the aerial and do an automatic tune to clear memory of all previous tuning.
Then carry out a manual tune for each of the Bilsdale UHF channels and see what %Signal & Quality you've got for each multiplex.

Hi up until the December retune I could get BBC4 HD fine, after that I tried multiple retunes and finally tuned it on a very stormy day (Elmley Moor transmitter). It was only on rare times i could actually view it. (a few other channels such as cbeebies HD also disappeared but no great loss.)

After the February retune I was hoping i'd get it back as the transmitter was outputting at 51,200 W on channel 56 as opposed to 5 kw from a local transmitter since December apparently. Unfortunately I still can't get it. I use a horizontal oldish loft aerial. Is there any mileage in me getting an improved aerial ?

Thanks.

After much manual retuning the standard [not HD] channels for anyone in east Yorkshire pointing at Emley Moor are: 33 36 44 47 48

Dave Bates:

There was no retune at Emley in December, the previous one was 23rd October and the transmitter power was reduced to 47.86kW, but that small difference shouldn't have made any difference, it's more likely to have been the effect of the channel change from C34 to C56.

For your postcode (picked up from your other post), you should have no problem with any of the multiplexes from Emley, so yes, a new aerial may solve the problem, especially if your "oldish loft aerial" is a Group B with 10 or 14 elements and not a larger wideband or Group E, although a Group T aerial will do, a Group E might be better as it should have slightly better gain unless you have a more elaborate Wideband/Group T.

Do you know what aerial you have at present, how many elements it has (describe if need be)?
It's also worth checking its alignment which should be bearing 187 degrees, that's 7 degrees W of due S at your location.
It might also be worth you checking that you are correctly tuned to all Emley's UHF channels as listed in my post yesterday at 7:48PM.

To be clear, in case anyone gets confused, the reduction in power to 47.86kW is for the COMs 7&8 multiplexes, the main multiplexes PSBs & COMs are all 174kW.

Thanks for the various inputs.

The nub of it all, which was all we really needed to know was that the channels that were previously on C51/52 like Dave channel are now on C33

I have retuned C33 and my stations are now restored.

Whilst I appreciate there are a lot of techies out there working in the field it must be remembered that ordinary domestic folk don't converse in the same language. Your average Freeview box will always talk in terms of Channels like C48, C51 etc so when providing info you simply need to tell people which channels have moved to which new channels.

In this case the earlier posted told me that the channels 51/52 had been moved, but failed to state simply where to.

All I needed to do was retune the specific channels that were new (e.g. C33)

It would be helpful if the details at the top of the webpage could be kept uptodate so domestic viewers had a quick and simply list of which programmes were on which channels.

Aside from that thanks for all your help

Arthur

I retuned as advised on the 5 February 2020 and tried again today 7 February. The multiplexes 47, 44 and 48 have installed, but 51 and 52 have not. I am therefore short of several tv and radio stations. Why?
I receive the Emley Moor transmissions at my home DN3 2JZ. I have a Humax PVR-9300T.
I thank you, in anticipation, for your help.
