I live in GU1 area. Used Freeview for years, had a new aerial fitted 5 yrs ago to improve reception, and no major dramas since. Bought a HUmax HD receiver today - awful reception of BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, and no HD channels at all. Old On Digital box has better picture on those channels, and LED TV with built in Freeview also has a good picture. Is it the Humax box which is rubbish, or an issue with HD transmissions in the area please? Thanks

timbo: It is hard to say without an actual postcode, but there are no HD transmissions in your area until 2012.

Thanks Briantist, but now I'm confused. Freeview says we should be getting HD, and an aerial engineer came round and said the same. We apparently have the right aerial (high gain pointed at the GU transmitter), so either its a rubbish product, or you are right. I've returned it anyway, as it couldn't pick up the normal freeview channels. Think I might try freesat instead. What a pain.

Timbo: You might be able to get HD from Crystal Palace, but you won't get it from Guildford until next April.

I looked at Digital UK's trade postcode checker using the postcode GU1 2NZ. Reception of Crystal Palace looks pretty good now, but HD signals will suffer badly from August when Sandy Heath SDN multiplex moves to C31.

Hi

I live in at RG21 in Basingstoke and am trying to set up my freeview TV, I can easily pick up the analogue channels and the IT3 digital band but cant pick up any of the others even when I try to manually store. Is there a problem with my aerial or is this due to trees etc. ?

Tim: According to the Digital UK postcode checker you have a choice of either Hannington which delivers four muxes with good reception until 29th June 2011 when MuxC and MuxD will have a power increase giving all six muxes. Alternatively Crystal Palace gives good reception on Mux1,A and B;variable reception on Mux2 and poor reception on muxes C,D and HD.....For Hannington use a group B aerial with rods horizontal pointing at 288degrees. For Crystal Palace use a group A aerial set for horizontal polarisation at 75 degrees.

Based on previous posts, Guildford is actually a comparatively powerful relay. You get ones like dorking that pump out some 7w.

kieran r: Use the Hannington transmitter, not Guildford at your location, you are not predicted to get any signal from the Guildford transmitter.
