The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

Dave: Thank you very much I had a funny feeling that this may be the case as it is very rare to have a lot of people with exactly the same fault! (although it does happen!)
Thank you for the reply
Andy

We have lost all signal of tv since they started working on the transmitter. Even with a signal booster no joy. It was fine before that. Had to buy a sat box instead.

I just don't have reliable Freeview service from the Mendip transmitter. Constant break up, frequent loss of channels and even more than one multiplex totally dead.

Does anyone know when these disruptive works will be finished. It is really annoying that I had to buy a sat box just to view tv when I pay loeads of money for BTVision. Should I ask for rebate on lake of service?

HoodedOracle: There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the transmitter, and in fact after engineering the signal power tends to go up, to the point where its often too much.

Your only 24km from the transmitter, so low signal is unlikely to be a problem. You should get something at least, even with engineering work.

I'd check the signal chain, starting from your TV and work backwards. Aerials might not suddenly stop working, but cables can, etc.

Thanks I have taken the time to look at all the cables and aerial and have decided to plunge for a new aerial as it is getting tired, also by doing this I can get all the cables replaced as they too came with the house and seem rather dated too. Though my neighbours are also having signal issues - but it is likely because they are using boosters - they have taken the boosters out and seem to have better signal now?
I hope that this will resolve the issue - also the engineer may do me a favour (cash in hand) and move the sat cable that leads to a different room to my lounge so I can utilise the twin tuner on it... *here's hoping*
Once I have all this done - I will let you know if I have any further probs... (hoping not).
But thanks for your help.

Would you adam and eve it! Today the signal is now good again. I have moved nothing, changed noting on my cables - but both the digital box and the Vision box are working?? Still going to have the cables looked at just in case it is a loose wire o/s from the aerial - especially as I have booked him now.
