Is anyone else experiencing 'West' programme reception issues? We have picture break-up fairly regularly on the weekend, but after the storm, we can only get Welsh versions in Clevedon...

Clive Austin: If the problem only started after the storm then chances are your aerial has been moved or damaged by the storm, or water is getting in to the cable somewhere. Is the aerial still attached and pointing the say way as those on neighbouring properties?

Recently the channels on C58 (770.0MHz) (BBC1 HD, ITV HD, etc) have been intermittent.. I have checked with others in the area and they too are experiencing this. It could be morning or night, and keeps dropping out.

I know there are no reported faults on the Mendip transmitter, but surely this isnt right?

Scope:

It is not a problem at the transmitter that serves almost 1m people and few are experiencing the problems you report. It is far more likely that the current atmospheric conditions are causing the problem so DO NOT RETUNE. There is nothing anyone can do about the effects of atmospheric high pressure.

Back in the analogue days , although living 54miles distant -and cranbourne chase between , with a contract' 18element Ariel , we could receive good enough ( except bbc2 on ch68 ) picture from Mendip. In the interest of following Yeovil Town and the novelty of local news from beyond east Dorset and Salisbury , with a WB14 quality Ariel on a 10ft pole above my chimney would a Digital Signal be received or is it not worth the bother ? I read somewhen that a digital signal was potentially 5x stronger ( maybe that being as only data being received ) ...with only schoolboy' knowledge of the subject and old anorak Tony no longer being around , can anyone shed light or advise on this ? The YT website is as slow as The Cherries when updated to cover games so the reliable Regional News coverage would be fantastic. Thanks , Steph, SW new forest

SJ Gale:

To answer your question we need a full post code for your location. Only then could we see what the reception conditions are like where you live.

The nature of a signal does not affect how it is transmitted or received by your aerial system. ALL television signals are in the UHF bands and receivable by a range of aerial designs. The fact that the signal is carrying digitally encoded signals does not affect how it is received. On most transmitters, the signals strtengths have not changed since the days of analogue TV.

There are no analogue channels broadcast now, they were all turned off in 2012. All television transmissions are now digitally encoded and have been since at least 2012 or before. A good read of the Sky Eye User Manual should help.

Briantist:

D3+4 is still on UHF 54 on Mendip and ArqB is on 52. And in the "Which Freeview channels does the Mendip transmitter broadcast?" listing, some of the channel numbers are showing as -1 or are incorrect or missing.

Cheers.
