The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

> There is a list of the switchover order ...

Thank you - that is a very useful site and just what I was looking for!
Nothing in the weeks before 27 July (in case it was delayed) or the weeks after (in case it was brought forward) seems relevant. The closest is Sudbury (London) upped the power of ArqA on Ch 60 to 100kW on 20 July, but I cannot see that being a problem with Mendip Ch 61. The other Sudbury mplex are on 41, 47, 56 and 58 so again no problem.

My line of sight to Cork is across water - do you think I could be getting Irish (or continental?) co-channel inteference?

John-Ha: I'm still not sure what your postcode is, but you won't get a signal from the RoI or Sudbury (Essex) in the Bristol area.

Briantist: You may not get a detectable signal from Ireland or Sudbury, but you will get interference. For Ofcom's 800MHz clearance consultation, Arqiva provided a plan of how to handle it, which details potential interactions between Mendip and Rouen and Cap de la Hague, should it be allocated C48 and C51 to replace C61 and C62.

However, I suspect this is in the 1% case (e.g. ducting), not general problems with reception.

John_Ha: I'd start by checking that cables are still making good contact and that the aerial is intact. Cable insulation does deteriorate with exposure to UV light and water penetration becomes a possibility - higher frequencies are affected worse by water problems than lower ones.

Amplification can also cause a problem - digital TV requires very linear response, it can't handle any significant distortion. If you have an amplifier or booster, try removing it or turning it down. Amplifier power supplies can introduce ripple if they start to fail, and ripple in the PSU causes ripple on the output, which again causes periods of drop-out or distortion.

The information for Mendip transmitter shows 3 mux's on VERY LOW output. When if ever, will these be of comparable power to the others? My signal is ok now (other than sometimes freezing or missing a few words ocasionaly) but with digital so far it seems a little bit of "different" weather will soon put paid to the "ok" signal.
Thank you.

Mike: As it says above:

"Mendip SDN and Arqiva A will temporarily operate on channels 62+ and 56+ respectively (both at 10kW ERP) until September 2011. Final DSO channels will then be adopted, though ERP levels will remain limited until early 2012. Arqiva B will operate on channel 59+ (10kW ERP) until January 2011, when it will move to channel 67 at 26kW ERP until September 2011. Arqiva B's final DSO channel will then be adopted, though ERP will remain limited until early 2012. NOTE: ArqA increases from 10kW to 12.5kW on 28 September (changes to 64QAM mode and loses its current +167kHz offset.)"

I've been struggling with Mendip a lot since the last changes were made, Mux A, C and ARQ B are all breaking up, especially C which is completely unwatchable, no amount of antenna alignment seems to work.

Mikei: You have not provided a postcode, so this is general information.

As it says above "Mendip SDN and Arqiva A will temporarily operate on channels 62+ and 56+ respectively (both at 10kW ERP) until September 2011. Final DSO channels will then be adopted, though ERP levels will remain limited until early 2012. Arqiva B's final DSO channel will then be adopted, though ERP will remain limited until early 2012."

Which basically means you will have to wait for the full power services to start.
