The symbol shows the location of the Ridge Hill (County of Herefordshire, England) transmitter which serves 270,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Ridge Hill (County of Herefordshire, England) mast?

Why am i having so much trouble recently with CH27 - COM6 522MHz. Could it be weather related. Had a new aerial fitted recently plus amp and still CH27 is off intermittently. I do live a long way off in HR3 but it is so hit and miss. Any weather/transmitter related suggestions?

Thanks

Nigel Owen:

Please provide a full post code so that we can see where you are in relation to the possible transmitters and what the expected reception conditions are likely to be.

Two nights running Ridge Hill Transmissions have stopped, very suddenly tonight. Last night it failed but by morning the signal had come back.

Andrew Bullock: Given that no one else is reporting any problems, it is most likely to be something at your end. If it is happening at the same time each night, you're probably suffering with electrical interference from something operating on a timer (probably something with an electric motor).

The TV came back on in the morning. It is now 10:16 and again BBC 1 has poor signal quality. Our signal skirts over Bringsty Common. Could it be a weather condition? When the aerial was put up, recently, it gave a 100% strength and quality even on HD. Now no signal on the easiest channels. We have just checked up on the aerial's movements but it is still in the same place. Time now 10:31pm.

Andrew Bullock:

100% strength is far too much and that could well be the cause of your problems. Reduce the signal strength to between 60% and 85% by inserting an attenuator in the aerial lead, do it so the weight of the attenuator does not 'hang' on any socket by adding a short flylead.

See 'too much of a good thing' on this website for more details

Andrew Bullock: Problem diagnosed. The TV signal goes when the LED light near it is switched on. This has happened at similar times when people have gone up to bed. I now have to work out how to protect the aerial from the LED. Thanks for your indulgence and I wonder if any one else has had a similar experience.

Mike and Stevens
Many thanks for your comments. All seems fine as long as the light is not on.

What is absolutely amazing it the Leak FM radio. It is so infinitely superior to all the modern forms of radio. There is brilliant separation, a full rounded sound, clear, colourless and with none of the noise associated with FM radio. Any of the other forms, DAB, Freeview or the internet are like mono signals and then one goes to FM and it is brilliant. I hope that the government never take FM out.

Andrew Bullock:

One possible course of action could be to change the aerial cables to better quality ones that are better screened from interference. Many coaxial cables are a central core with a fine wire 'screen around it, separated by plastic insulation. If you change that for a cable that has a double screen of copper foil and woven copper wire, such as is often used for satellite signal feeds, you may find it improves the problem - but no guarantees. See White Foam Filled Digital Satellite & Aerial Cable for an example of the better type of cable. You may also explore using CT100 or RG100 cables.

Another possible solution to try is a different make of LED bulb or even a flourescent type. I know they cost a bit more to run but are still cheaper than incandescent lamps (the 'old' style bulbs).

There does appear to be a problem around the Bromyard area. 7am the signal is patchy and again around 8pm-ish

Now I thought this might be something in my house or something landing on the aerial or something like that. But friends of mine who live in the town (just over a mile from me) say they have the same problem.

Weather conditions are clear.
