KR: Thanks for the update re your PVR, and which I have to say suggests to me that your signal is not "over the top" so to say, as I suspect that your problem is simply caused by the signal being received suffering from glitches which are possibly being caused by trees somewhere along the signal path.
Sony receiver circuitry is not on a par with Humax devices, the latter capable of displaying a reasonably trouble free picture when fed from a less than desirable signal where others devices (eg: Sony to name but one) would be struggling.
I do admit though, that in situations where a signal "is" on the high side the Humax can cope with this to a level that would block reception on other equipment, and so the test suggested of feeding the aerial directly into the problem TV's feed still applies, and although I very much doubt if this action will rectify the problem you refer to its still worth a try.

Having a problem with the EPG on my MEOS TV it sometimes shows "no information" on some stations, but at other times the EPG works OK.
There is no rime or reason as to when it dose this, dose anyone have any idea what is causing this???

We have 2 set top boxes with older TV's and these have not been working properly since around 19.09.12, most of the time there is no signal other times v.bad pixellation, they had worked perfectly for the last year since swithover in our area, apparantly we receive from the Waltham transmitter. No amount of retuning etc solves the problems. A new TV works fine in each of these sockets, any idea why now the problems with the set top boxes?

Sam: With queries of a nature such as yours a person has to provide their location, this in the form of a post code or one from nearby, as its impossible to check the signal levels expected in your area without this knowledge.
However some older boxes cannot operate with the new transmission standards that came into being when stations switched to high powered operation, and so its possible that this is the reason for your problem if a new TV was found to work OK when connected into the aerial point that was previously used by the boxes.
Maybe you could indicated the model numbers of the boxes in question.

Thanks jb38 for your response. The 2 boxes are Bush BU10FVZS1 MMB89202813 only actually bought August 2012 from Argos and an Argos special DV3T Digital Set Top Box CDVB51N Home Retail Group Mk9 2NW bought August 2011. The latter one did work brilliantly since our switchover in ?August 2011 till Sept 12, the Bush has only worked on and off since purchase, more off than on. We have an outside aerial plus a booster box in the loft. My post code is ST14 8LJ. Hope you can help.

Sam: Thanks for the update on equipment used etc although I had also meant to enquire as to the model of TV you have purchased, because if as you say it appears to work fine when tested on the same aerial points that the Freeview boxes don't, then even allowing for the fact that your TV is very likely to be fitted with a somewhat more sensitive tuner hence the fact of it operating OK, but it also suggests that even although you have a booster box in the loft the gain of this device is not really good enough to keep the signal running at a sufficiently high enough level above the Freeview boxes reception cut off threshold.
I do have to say though that your "Argos special" really does come into the category of one getting what's paid for as far as performance is concerned, and so I would prefer not to comment on that device, what I would be interested to know is the level of signal that your TV is receiving, so maybe you could carry out a signal level test whilst on BBC (any programme), ITV1 and also ITV3 (different transmitters involved), or alternatively have a look at your booster box and let me have the model number of it.
The other point I would like you to check is the mux channel numbers seen associated with the these signal strength checks, because "if" indeed its Waltham (96 degrees @ 42 miles) you receive from then the mux numbers should be 61 (BBC) - 54 (ITV) - 29 (SDN) whereas if you receive from Sutton Coldfield (184 degrees @ 19 miles) the mux channels would be 43 - 46 - 42.

Lost Freeview HD channels on Sony Bravia, Nov 11th onwards, have tried a re-tune, but no luck. They were on channels 50+ , moved to 101, 102 and now have disappeared. Any suggestions please?

Russ: You should first of all try carrying out an auto tune with the aerial removed to blank out anything stored in the tuners memory, which when complete which should result in a "no channels found" warning, then after reconnecting the aerial again carry out another normal auto tune.
Its always really best policy to "factory reset" a TV or carry out a "first time installation" with this type of problem, but Sony's are somewhat limited in the facilities offered and its possible that your model does not allow this procedure.

Hi jb38, Thanks again for the info, I have checked the mux channel nos & yes we are receiving from Waltham. Our booster box is SLX8 8 way aerial amplifier. The signal level for BBC 1 is around 52% at this moment 2.30pm I'm sure at other times it will be less as we are receiving a picture of sorts at this time whereas very often there is nothing, couldn't receive anything for ITV 1 and 48% for ITV 3. The Bush box will not let me do a manual retune but the Argos one will, but after that still no change, I followed all the instructions from BBC reception advice for that, unplugging etc. The newest TV is a Toshiba 22DV501B LCD TV DVD Combi. I know what you say about you get what you pay for with the Argos box but it has been working fantastically for the last year until Sept 12. Your help would be really appreciated.Thanks Regards Sam

Sam: Well with regards to my comments about the box, although I fully appreciate that the box in question may well have been working OK until September, however its when a signal received by the box is somewhat less than perfect that the circuitry deficiencies that nearly all of these lower price range devices suffer from will show up.
The booster / splitter you have is an OK brand, but though its not exactly unknown for these to fail and so you should test that its operating OK by selecting BBC1 (or ITV1) on one of your receiving devices, entering the signal strength check screen and noting the indication seen, then switch off the power supply to the SLX booster / splitter and if its working OK then you should notice a reduction in strength.
Should it be OK then the next thing you could try "if" you know which output from the booster goes where, because if you do then take the coax plug out of the booster port that's used to feed the signal to the device you are using as a signal strength monitor, then reconnect the plug again into the "full" port on the booster, re-checking the signal strength on the monitor TV to observe any changes.
The other point is concerning your location, "if" you are a resident of Church Lane then the majority of aerials seen there appear to be facing towards Sutton Coldfield? and with only a very few facing Waltham, this begging the question of, have you made any local enquiries about reception from households where the aerial is seen to face Waltham? the direction of Waltham if standing directly in front of, and looking at the Dog & Partridge Pub, being to the right and straight down Church Walk towards the East.
That said though, you have to keep in mind that work is still taking place at the Waltham transmitter and with warnings of weak signals etc, and so its not the best of times to be diagnosing potential problems in situations like this albeit the booster check that I mentioned is still valid.
By the way the aerials referred to were seen using Google earth, and its appreciated that this situation might have changed by now as Google E does not have bang up to date images.
