My Freeview has dropped like a stone recently and I'm left with just the BBC channels. My postcode is NP15 1EQ and whilst i'm 'tuned' to Welsh broadcasts (I'm guessing Wenvoe), I'm wondering if i should have the aerial repositioned. Is Freeview signal affected by PV panels? The aerial cable runs beneath some and i wonder if there is a magnetic field disturbing it?

Symon Densham: Could you take the bedroom TV to the lounge and tune it in there? Then take it back to the bedroom and see if it works of the aerial outlet there.

Miles: As far as the PV panels are concerned as these are DC devices then they shouldn't have any effect in the way you are wondered about, however they are capable of blocking a loft aerials signal or alternatively causing deflection or reflection of a signal reaching a roof aerial, and especially so if its not that powerful.

However you are indicated as being located in a difficult reception area, as using the p/code provided you are only predicted as being able to receive the BBC's channels plus ITV1 from Wenvoe with none of the lower powered commercial multiplexes indicated as being possible to receive, and I feel that although you might well have received them before its likely to have been at a level not too far away from the reception drop out threshold of your equipment, and which they have now most likely dropped under hence no reception.

For a test, select BBC and go into the signal check menu and make a note of the level seen, then provided you haven't carried out a re-scan select ITV1 (or some other non BBC channel) and go into the signal check menu to see what's being indicated strength / quality wise, if though you have carried out a re-scan then the ITV1 mux channel will have been lost from the memory so go into the tuning menu / manual tune and enter Ch44 (ITV1), and as soon as you enter it look to see if a signal level is being shown, and if so how much it is under the level of the BBC channel previously tested for strength, but no matter what the level it will need to be lifted otherwise you will not get a picture, this being where you would benefit from an amplifier in line with your aerial lead, that is if you haven't already got one.

Just as a point of interest, I noticed that moving a short distance from your p/code location to nearer the village actually loses Wenvoe reception and its Mendip that takes over, but in exactly the same way as Wenvoe, that is with only the main PSB channels being possible to receive, albeit coverage in the immediate vicinity really being provided by the USK PSB only relay @ 1 mile away.

Anyway have a test at the levels seen and giving an update on results, as further advice can then be given if required.

Why has Wenvoe disappeared from my "My Freeview" transmitter list on this site? I live in NP19 9ER and I can pick all multiplexes of Wenvoe up perfectly. It is also the primary transmitter for my location, being as I am in Wales.

Will: Looking at Postcode Checker - Trade View you can't get all the services from Wenvoe, and the lack of a good line-of-sight makes it a less probably transmitter for the simplified version of the prediction engine.
