I live in CH60 and get absolutely zero at all. How do I tell if I need a new or find what the problem is? I don't want to call someone out and get ripped off through lack of knowledge

Joe: The most common answer to such a question is that the in question does not have a DVB-T2 tuner. Knowledge of the make and model number would allow us to say whether this is the reason or not.

For those that do, when manual tuning it is sometimes necessary to set the to DVB-T2 (as against DVB-T for definition broadcasts).

Joe: Wehn you say you have "absolutely zero " - when was the last time you had any , and do you know if your neighbours have any problems? What kind of setup do you have at home - just 1 TV, connected to an outdoor ?

Hi Michael, I have 1 tv with , I have never had free view but equally have never tried as I did not need it before. It's connected to an outside . My concern is that I have no idea, or way to tell, if the problem is the aerial, the wiring from the aerial or the tv itself.
The tv is with hd so I am assuming that is not the issue but this is not my area of knowledge.
I am thinking of getting a 2nd tv with free view but don't want to end up paying £150+ for a new aerial if not necessary.

Joe: Are you positive that the TV referred to is a 32PFL522D and not a PFL5522D ? as the first is not recognised in the Philips data base, however should it be the latter then this model is not fitted with an HD capable DVB-T2 tuner.

Hi jb38, that's definitely what it says. It's a 32inch screen so guessing its the same model. It says dvb-t on the back. Why is the dvb-2 important just for free view?

Joe: Its not important to but is for HD , and with the reason being that the signal transmitted for HD is technically different to that of standard Freeview by basically being more complex and hence why that a normal DVB-T tuner cannot in effect "see" the signal, the "2" of the DVB-T2 spec being the thing that differentiates between the two modes.

Of course what's said is on the assumption that Michael is receiving Freeview from the PSB only that transmits HD on Ch60, as its the only that's indicated as being possible to receive at Michaels location that transmits on Ch60.

Hi JB38, OK, thanks. I think I maybe confused things. I am not getting any Free view at all and am trying to identify the cause of the problem or at least have an educated guess before I call an engineer who could tell me whatever they like as I have no idea :-)

Joe: are you on or storton wood with the high winds around here over the last couple of days it could be anything what you need to know it is the cheapest area in England to get a fitted so bite the bullet and call someone out, ask someone you know who can recommend a good aerial man but don't use a 0800 number use someone local with a prefix you know

Please post a question, answer or commentIf you have Freeview reception problems before posting a question your must first do this Freeview reset procedure then see: Freeview reception has changed, Single frequency interference, and Freeview intermittent interference.

If you have no satellite signal, see Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'

If you have other problems, please provide a full (not partial) postcode (or preferably enter it in box at the top right) and indicate where if aerial is on the roof, in the loft or elsewhere.
