To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Hi

Since the retune 23 November I have lost the channels in multiplexes C & D from above (i.e. Multiplex with Viva Film4 etc. And one with E4+1 and Sky News)

My location is NN126RP using Sandy Heath transmitter I believe. in communal flat with and shared aerial which worked before retune.

I have tried reinstallation retune a couple of times with no luck.

Any ideas how to get channels back, as missing sky news during breakfast!

Many Thanks in advance!

We live in Colchester and since the retune last week we have lost ITV4 and Film 4 (all channels on multiplex D). Having had all channels before the retune I am somewhat perplexed as to why we have now lost them. Have followed instructions to retune several times but to no avail. Any information as to whether we will get them back ??? Feel somewhat miffed that with each retune we randomly gain/lose channels with no reason given and no recourse.

I have lost FILM FOUR, ITV 4, RT, AL JAZEERA ect Since the re-tune the other week. Im in the EAST ANGLIA transmitter area with a communal aerial.
Freeview told me the aerial needs tweeked because of the new signal strenth on some of the channels.

Bury St. Edmunds

I live in Bury St Edmunds postcode IP33 2HX my house is at the top of a hill 80 ft above sea level with virtually clear line of sight to both Talconeston and Sudbury. Pre switch-over I got a better and more stable picture on Talconeston, with maybe one or two clicks a month, although Sudbury is closer. Your graphs suggested that after switch over the Sudbury signal should be stronger so I turned my aerial back to Sudbury & retuned but experienced occasional pixilations every day. Today my portable aerial signal meter shows a signal strength of 60db/uv from Sudbury whereas on Talconeston I get a signal strength of 70. However when I retuned my Freeview box for Tacolneston I get a very broken and unstable picture on all channels. Is this a case of my set top box automatically tuning to the stronger Sudbury frequencies and rejecting the Tacolneston ones? If so how can I get round this as the Sudbury picture is worse now than Talconeston pre-switch-over.

Andy: You need to see which UHF channels your TV has tuned to. These are usually shown on the screen that shows signal strength/quality.

If they are not correct, you will have to do manual tuning. It varies between models as to how easy this is (if at all).

In some cases the auto-tune scan can be run with the aerial lead unplugged where the unwanted channels are on one part of the TV spectrum.

Unfortunately Sudbury and Tacolneston's multiplexes are all mixed in together:

41 Sud D3&4
42 Tac SDN
44 Sud BBC A
45 Tac ArqA
47 Sud BBC B (HD)
49+ Sud SDN
50 Tac ArqB
54 Sud ArqA
55- Tac BBC A
59- Tac D3&4
62 Tac BBC B (HD)
63 Sud ArqB

I re-tuned my uncle's TV (CM7 4EQ) when Sudbury switched - newish Panasonic TV, Sudbury Tx, Reception Prediction - excellent across the whole range. Mux 1 & 2 perfect (Ch 44 & 41), Mux A, C & D (Ch 49, 54, 63) nothing at all (no HD Rx). I tried various fiddles to no avail. I put it down to the old TV aerial. There may even be an RF filter of some sort as he is close to a now-defunct US air base.
I am in the Tacolneston area . I re-tuned a friend nearby & had exactly the same problem as my uncle. However, it can't be the aerial. She has a new-build house with 4 TVs running off a Tacolneston aerial D.A.. 3 Tvs receive all the muxes, the 4th receives only Muxes 1 & 2. All are modern digital TVs, but the 4th one is a cheap set from M&S! I haven't been able to go & try re-tuning. I can only assume it is the set that's at fault. Could it be anything else?

John: If the problem with your uncle's TV is caused by a filter, then it might be worth considering what channels previous services were on and whether your uncle every successfully received those services.

Ch 44 and Ch 41 were used for analogue and are now used for digital. Ch49 and Ch 54 were used for digital pre-switchover. Ch 63 can't be picked up by many people.

Did your uncle have digital before switchover? If so, then 49+ was used for BBC and 54 was used for what it's used for now.

For the friend's house, try carrying out the procedure outlined at the top of this page on the M&S box. Then take it to another TV aerial socket that feeds one of the other TVs and try it.

Also, is this an old box? Could it be on the list of those that fall victim to the mode changes at switchover?

Good morning. I have a TV with a built in digibox and my aerial is fixed to our house roof. Some days ago we suddenly lost several digital channels which include BBC4, Pick TV and Dave. All other channels are fine and signal strength is coming up good on those channels.We also however have slight pixellation problems on ITV1 and Channel 4+1. Any suggestions please? Many thanks.

Thank you for comments.
Solved my friend - I just went round & did a manual tune on missing muxes - everything now there. Must have been some glitch during original re-tune.

As to my Uncle, I realise he has 2 aerials, one Sudbury, one Crystal Palace. His TV people plugged his new TV into C.P. & he watched that, mostly analogue, pre DSO. I moved him to Sudbury when I re-tuned him Next time I'm there I might try tuning missing muxes using C.P. aerial to confirm his TV is ok, though I'm sure it is. I did try manual tuning missing Sudbury muxes & got nothing, so a filtered aerial seems likely.
