Many thanks. I did not appreciate that I could look at signal strength & quality on my TV. I have just done this and looking at the HD channels the strength is about 60% but the quality is 0% and no picture. When the aerial was installed we did have a big tree next door, which has since been removed. So my aerials direction was 20 degrees offset to try to get around the tree, that is in comparison to aerial direction of all my neighbours. I know that this now needs correcting.
I am just trying to understand what fault has occurred this week. I am trying to gain a little info before asking an aerial guy to come out. Thanks again

Yes HD was fine at my neighbours and all the channel & MUX numbers seem to correspond to Winter Hill. The booster is not giving the benefit I first thought. I have unplugged it without any noticeable loss. It seems my fault comes and goes, last night most channels disappeared with the booster tonight they are OK without the booster. I appreciate local climate impacts on the signal but can an aerial or cable fault also give intermittent errors to signal strength and quality? One benefit of my problem is that it has made me realise what a fascinating subject this is.

Many thanks for all your replies. I know I am asking random questions about a specific fault. The tree was taken down about 18mts ago and these problems only started this week. I have now phoned a chap who is coming out this week. Just out of interest all the HD channels have come back and standard BBC1 & BBC2 have disappeared. Thanks again.

Hi,
We have a five year old wide band aerial and I think we are getting signals from Winter Hill and we have had great Freeview reception until last Saturday when we lost most channels except BBC1 & BBC2. My TV works fine at my neighbours, so its a cable or aerial fault. But I have just borrowed a booster, plugged in just behind the TV, and can now get most channels apart from COM6 (ArqB), Yesterday & Film4. Can an aerial fail on just some MUX signals and not others? And what faults would I see if a 'broken coax on the roof was letting in water' ?
