I have bought a new aerial, placed in the roof. Checked all connections and used mobile app to get directions to 5 local transmitters only to get weak or No signal message. Used to work OK, with original aerial, but now nothing. I do have sky dish but would like to change to BT TV but not possible without a signal. Any ideas please?

Chris:

You should be getting some signals from Huntshaw Cross transmitter which is on a bearing or 318 degrees from your location, as shown on the 'digitaluk trade' entry below your lost (see Coverage Checker - Detailed View if you can't see it).

You should be getting signals on channels 48, 50, 52, 55, 56 and 59, though 52 and 56 might not be reliable. Your aerial needs to be either a Group C type or better a log-periodic with sufficient sensitivity, so at least a log36 type.

The alternative is Beacon Hill at 191 degrees but reception can be problematic even though it is closer. Both transmitters show there are hills potenially causing reception problems.

What type of aerial have you got in the loft? How high is it mounted?

steve: You don't need to subscribe to Sky to get TV via satellite, you can easily cancel Sky and connect a Freesat box to your existing dish and cabling as a one off purchase. No plans have been announced to build new transmitters anywhere since digital switchover.

Avi:

Very unlikely if you mean one in the same room as the TV set. You're too far away from your local transmitter and those aerials are very poor at best. You could use a proper aerial either mounted on the chimney stack as usual or possibly one in the loft though that can be affected by ice and snow.

Thanks for your advice on 16 December.
I have now changed the aerial from a cat T to Log 36 as suggested and raised it as high as possible in the loft and I have now got 77 channels.
Thanks for your advice
