Freeview reception at OL4 5JA

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Recently keep losing bbc 1 and 2, using a finlux 55"tv , other TV's in the house are fine not losing signal, I read something about unplugin the tv and retuning, this seemed to work, however just today the signal almost disappears, is it the tv at fault ? as I see nothing reported elsewhere for the keeley lang transmitter in Orkney ?
any other suggestions ?

adam potter: Are all the TVs connected to the same aerial? If one is loosing signal but others are fine they it's quite likely that you have a loose or damaged cable/connection somewhere between that TV and the aerial.

Good morning, Can you tell me if the recent change in weather conditions is having an effect on tv signals. My channels are not very good breaking up and I don't seem to be able to pick up the Sheffield channel.

Paul Reuben Bruney: Your 4km from the Sheffield transmitter. If you cant pick that up, then something is very very wrong with your system. The only thing that could be wrong other than that is your signal is so strong that its screwing up your tuner.

However, the reality is that if your that close to a transmitter and you can't pick it up, there is a profound problem with your setup.

Paul Reuben Bruney:

Please would you tell us what the signal strengths being reported on your TV are for each of the multiplexes. As yopu are so close to the transmitter, it is highly likely that you have too muc signal, which will cause the problems you report.

If any of the signal strengths is greater than 85% then you need to fit an attenuator into the aerial lead at the back of your equipment. They are inexpensive and available in different 'strengths' so you could start by buying a 3dB and a 6dB. Try each separately to see if there is any improvement. If not, you can sonnect them both in series and try again. If the signal strengths are still above 85%, you can get a 12dB attenuator to try.

Note that if the signal strength shows 0% then you almost definitely have too much and it is 'swamping' your tuner. That assumes you don't have an aerial fault.

Hi

Our Freeview is down here in Sittingbourne, Kent, the BBC has mentioned that this may be down until at least 8pm, can you confirm if that is correct?

Living in North dorset in the shadow of a hill to the north that blocks the mendip transmitter, we use the tx on the I of W and have done for fifty years.. three days ago we lost all reception on both tv and radio on the TV, a sony Bravia.
usually in the summer we lose most channels but never all. we also get French channels displace our freeview ones.
Cant get on the roof to point the antenna in another direction and all other txs are not in line of sight.
maybe I should thank you.

Howard Brinton:

Shaftesbury is a known difficult area due to the hills as you state. The signals from Mendip should be reasonable unless you have a hill immediately nearby and between you and the transmitter. Rowridge, on the Isle of Wight, is considered to be variable on both horizontal and vertical transmissions, so will be unreliable. Also it means that an aerial will be aimed in a southwards direction, making it more susceptible to picking up signals from French transmitters especially when there is high pressure around, quite common in hot weather.

I would recommend that you check all the connections in your aerial system, unplugging all coaxial plugs and re-inserting them (to ensure clean contact is made) and look for any damage to the cables. If you still have problems when the weather is less hot and all those checks don't resolve the problem then I would suggest getting a professional aerial contractor to check out the aerial system. If they suggest replacing the aerial ensure they use a good quality log-periodic one and don't fall for the 'digital aerial' scam as there is no such thing.

Hope that helps?

I recently purchased a new HD TV but I keep getting "NO SIGNAL" on screen when trying to obtain HD channels. This is not a constant but it does happen every night at some stage. Also my Amazon Firestick fails to work!
I have a good web strength of between 32 - 38 Mbps.
Any ideas how to rectify these problems?

raymond harris: Does your new TV have a Freeview HD logo either on the TV itself or the box, manual etc? This indicates whether it has a DVB-T2 tuner, which is required to receive HD channels on Freeview (if it only says HD Ready then it doesn't have the correct tuner). If you're not sure, tell us the make and model so we can check. Please also provide a full postcode so we can see which transmitter you're using and where you are in relation to it, along with your predicted signal strength and which channels you should be able to receive.

Have you successfully connected your Amazon Fire stick to your wifi? What do you see on the screen when you select the HDMI input that you've connected the stick to? See Amazon's help page (https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202104860) for wifi setup instructions.
