E. Allen: Check your signal level - is it very high or low? Lodon Live is a local channel and might be on a low power at your location, but you seemingly have a problem with your system anyway, hence the 'no signal'. Check the aerial system starting from the TV and working back - most likely problem is a loose connection or dodgy cable.

Your freesat is entirely seperate from your freeview - if you getting no signal on freeview, then freesat should be uneffected, unless you are unlucky enough to have a problem on both.

Richard J Cooper: Could be the tuner (in which case just buy a cheap new one - 25 for Freeview, 37 for Freeview HD), or its locked onto the wrong transmitter. There seems to be loads of mistunes after the retune. Even my Manhattan box has switched transmitters, and will need a manual retune at some point.

You can always test the box by finding out what its tuned into. If its Talcneston and its still playing up, then its the box.

I'm confused by the use of 'channel'. I and, I think, most people think of it as in 'Channel 4' but on this site it seems more often to mean something else. How am I supposed to understand which of the Channels 21 to 60 used by Freeview broadcast which of the Channels in the Channel 4 sense? I'm at M469PE (Winter Hill in line of sight) and for some reason ITV4 on the Humax (but not the TV) EPG has started to show 'Quest Red+1 is back ..' and I want to know how to correct it with the least effort. Some of the children's channels have also started to pixelate.
And I might as well ask here if it's normal to need several presses of the red button to bring up the text.

I'm very very keen to get access to TALKING PICTURES channel, which I had at other residences. We have an HD tv and a Freeview HD receiver. But I haven't seen the TALKING PICTURES channel noted on this site. Can you explain why it's not available?

So Murphy:

It is still transmitting as it has done for some years. If it had ceased transmission there would be thousands of complaints!

So check your aerial, cables and equipment.

Michael Martin:

The title 'Channel 4' is merely a title for the services. It was chosen before the service started as it would be the fourth 'channel', joining BBC1, BBC2 and ITV. It is merely a name, nothing more. The same is true for Channel 5 (or C5) and for S4C, etc.

When we refer to the Logical Channel Numbers, LCNs, we are talking about the number you enter on your remote control to select a particular service, the number being chosen by Freeview, Freesat or Sky, etc.

When we refer to channels we are talking about the frequencies allocated for TV transmissions, these days it is the multiplexes that are broadcast on a particular frequency from a particular transmitter. These are the channels 21 to 68 (or in some cases 69) which refer to an internationally agreed frequency per 'channel'. You can find these by looking at https://en.wikipedia.org/…ies.

Maie Richards:

The maps show you are likely to be using the Haywards Heath transmitter, which is a Freeview Lite type so only carries the multiplexs BBC A, D3&4 and BBC B HD. If you are using Crystal Palace, the multipexes ARQ A and COM 7 are shown as variable reliability. Or you might be using the Heathfield transmitter, so check which it is currently tuned to. Heathfield is not shown as carrying COM7 or COM8.

If you go to Channels At Your Address | Freeview and there the details asked for you should get a listing of the services available at you particular location. It is approximate though.

If it is listed there, check which transmitter it is said to be available from at that location and then check whether your TV is tuned to that particular transmitter by looking at the channel frequency numbers and also check the signal strength (too much or too littyle is not good - over 85% is too much).

I have been tuned to the Rowridge VP transmitter for a few years now with adequate signal strength, sometimes dropping due to weather effects. The aerial is on the roof with a mast-head amp and a distribution amp in the loft. I was instructed to rescan the channels last week due to some changes and ever since have had poor reception with the picture dropping out or pixellating. The auto scan picks up 274 channels but reception is poor. Have tried a factory reset of the in-built Freeview receiver, cleared the channels list and tried to add the channels groups manually but reception is now getting worse. Has something happened to the transmitter, or is it on lower power ?
