To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Hi I live in Macclesfield SK11 8NX for some time now I can pick up the BBC channels without any loss. But all the ITV type channels 90% of the time show very poor reception or none at all. I have a fairly new Sony DVD recorder and an outdoor Ariel. The reception guide shows for BBC from 7 to 10. The others vary from 1 to 3 at very best. Can you advise please??.

Sally Storey: Can your downstairs TV receive HD programmes such as 101/ 102 / 103 etc, because Ch64 (Jewellery Maker) is transmitted on the COM7 HD transmitter.

If though the TV in question can receive 101 etc, then carry out a "first time installation" on it in order to load EPG64 into the guide. First time installation also known as "Default setting" or "Manufacturers reset".

Ken Torson: Are you sure that it's tuned to Winter Hill on C59 and not Haslingden on C23 or Saddleworth on C39?

nigel parr: Those two programme channels are transmitted on the COM6 / ArqB multiplex, which in the case of the Nottingham station are broadcast on C48, therefore carry out a "manual" tune on C48 and store the results.

By the way, you will know beforehand if you are going to receive them or not, as when you select and enter C48 into the manual tune box, the strength and quality of the signal should be indicated on the bars before you press search.

Live in Little Common and had the aerial retuned to the Heathfield transmitter approx 1 year ago but the picture on Freeview Pixelates on BBC1 and 2 intermittently - sometimes am but mostly pm and I have to switch to Freesat. Continually retune the set but have been told to completely clear the tuner and start from scratch. Is this going to help?
